Steven sustained a true insertional achilles tendon rupture that required aggressive tendon/bone debridement, tendon reattachment with anchor fixation and finally a V-Y tendon lengthening procedure to restore physiologic length and tension. Physical therapy currently has Steven walking in fracture boot with plans to return back into shoes with brace by post-op week 10.
Neglected heel pain can sometimes lead to spontaneous ruptures like this. it’s important to diagnosis and treat in the early stages of presenting symptoms.
